data-contrast=\"none\">Rodrigo Iv\u00e1n Cort\u00e9s<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> has been convicted of \u201cgender based political violence\u201d over posts on Twitter and Facebook referring to transgender-identifying Mexican Congressional representative, Salma Lu\u00e9vano, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">as a \u201cman who self-ascribes as a woman\u201d. On Wednesday, Cort\u00e9s addressed the Organization of American States (OAS), asking the international b<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ody to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">intervene with regard to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the \u201csystematic <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">violations of fundamental<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> rights\u201d occurring in Me<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">xico.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Cort\u00e9s, head of political advocacy group Frente Nacional por la Familia <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(\u201cNational Front for the Family\u201d or FNF), <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">has been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.te.gob.mx\/media\/SentenciasN\/pdf\/especializada\/SRE-PSC-0006-2023.pdf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">convicted<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> by a Mexican court for <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cgender-based political violence,\u201d in addition to \u201cdigital, symbolic, psychological, and sexual violence,\u201d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> for using masculine references on Twitter and Facebook with regard to Lu\u00e9vano. Following the complaint, Cort\u00e9s was charged and convicted of \u201cgender based political violence\u201d.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Lu\u00e9vano, together with transgender identifying representative Mar\u00eda Clemente, is known for various incidents in Mexico\u2019s Congress, including <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">arguing<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"none\">with <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Congressman Gabriel Quadri<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> on the question of transgender identity (whom Lu\u00e9vano has likewise sued); insisting on the Congressman\u2019s expulsion; and supporting the physical <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">forcing out<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> of the chairman of the session from his seat over the matter.
