data-contrast=\"none\">) \u2013 The Finnish state prosecutor will appeal against the second unanimous court decision which exonerated a Finnish MP and bishop of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/adfinternational.org\/our-focus\/freedom-of-speech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hate speech<\/a>\u201d allegations for sharing their faith-based beliefs. The prosecution is demanding tens of thousands of Euros in fines and insisting that R\u00e4s\u00e4nen\u2019s and Pohjola\u2019s publications be censored. Bishop Juhana Pohjola faced charges for publishing R\u00e4s\u00e4nen\u2019s pamphlet for his congregation almost two decades ago. Dragging people through the courts for years, subjecting them to hour-long police interrogations, and wasting taxpayer money in order to police people\u2019s deeply held beliefs has no place in a democratic society. They fall under the \u2018war crimes and crimes against humanity\u2019 section in the Finnish criminal code. R\u00e4s\u00e4nen and Bishop Pohjola faced two days of trial at the Helsinki District Court on 24 January and 14 February 2022. The prosecution then appealed the \u201cnot guilty\u201d ruling in April 2022. The case was then heard by the Helsinki Court of Appeal on 31 Aug\u20101 Sep 2023.
