Since 2019, the ADF International team in Asia has supported a total of 52 cases in Pakistan \u2014 including 14 Christian minor girls freed from the horrors of sexual slavery and forced conversion.<\/p>

These girls were rescued from forced and sham marriages, where they endured physical, sexual and emotional abuse and were coerced into converting to Islam and renouncing their Christian faith.<\/p>

Forced religious conversion is often used as a loophole to shield abductors from prosecution. Once a girl is coerced into converting to Islam, her abductor can falsely claim the marriage was lawful \u2014 even if she\u2019s still a child.<\/p>

Pakistan has signed international treaties meant to protect human rights. Despite these legal protections on paper, the justice system often fails these girls.<\/p>

Courts are often reluctant to intervene, allegedly due to pressure from Islamist groups, and families are discouraged from reporting these crimes.<\/p>

And even when cases are reported, legal loopholes and inconsistent enforcement leave these girls unprotected and their abductors unpunished.<\/p>

This is more than a legal issue \u2014 it\u2019s a human rights crisis robbing young Christian girls of the childhoods they deserve. According to UNICEF, 100 million girls worldwide are at risk of child marriage this decade.<\/strong><\/p>

At just 11 years old, Shahida was robbed of her childhood, her freedom, and her faith.<\/p>

After her mother eloped with a Muslim man in Pakistan, Shahida was \u201cgiven\u201d to his brother, who later forced her into an Islamic marriage.<\/p>

Over the years, she endured unimaginable abuse, bore two children, and was coerced into converting to Islam just so her captor could evade Pakistan\u2019s anti-child marriage laws.<\/p>

But thanks to a recent court ruling, Shahida is finally free. We were honoured to coordinate her defence alongside our allied lawyers in Pakistan.<\/p>

Her forced conversion and marriage have been annulled. And she has been issued new identity documents correctly listing her faith as Christian.<\/p>

Reeha \u2014 a17-year-old Christian girl \u2014 was abducted by her Muslim neighbour and his three friends while on her way back home from school.<\/p>

The four men took her to an unknown location and forced her thumbprints on a piece of paper. They told her they would burn her face with acid if she didn\u2019t comply.<\/p>

She was forced into marrying one of them, kept in captivity, raped, and beaten up by her abductors for over two months.<\/p>

Thankfully, she managed to flee captivity through a door accidentally left unlocked.<\/p>

This, however, was not the end of Reeha\u2019s plight. To this day, there are constant threats hurled at her single mother and younger brother by her abductors.<\/p>

We have intervened in the case and are supporting Reeha\u2019s lawyer in her efforts to annul Reeha\u2019s Islamic marriage.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Kidnapped and forced to put fingerprints on ID papers<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

At 16 years old, Saba was bundled into a car at gunpoint by three men.<\/p>

The men took her to an unknown place and locked her in a room where she was subjected to physical and mental torture for nearly 20 days.<\/p>

She was raped and forced to convert from Christianity to Islam and marry one of her abductors (Asif) after he forcefully obtained her thumbprints.<\/p>

One day, Saba managed to escape. But when she reached her parents\u2019 house, they reluctantly allowed her back because they were afraid.<\/p>

They had received persistent threats from Saba\u2019s abductor and were also scared of being shamed in society which views victims of sexual abuse as unclean and even complicit.<\/p>

Saba then moved in with a relative who arranged a meeting with a Christian lawyer on the ground. The lawyer got the illegal marriage dissolved from the courts in January 2022. Surviving Abduction, Sexual Abuse, and Forced Conversion<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Sana is a 15-year-old Christian from Punjab province in Pakistan. In January 2025, she was abducted from her aunt\u2019s home. Her abductor forced her to convert to Islam and enter a sham marriage.\u00a0 For the next five months, Sana endured unimaginable abuse, including repeated sexual assault, which led to her pregnancy. She was unable to practice her Christian faith.<\/p>

Her father went repeatedly to the police, begging them to rescue his daughter and bring her home. But his pleas fell on deaf ears.
Twelve days after her abduction, the police informed the Masih family that their daughter had converted to Islam and married Anees with her free will.<\/p>

When ADF International allied lawyer examined the paperwork, he discovered the truth: the conversion and marriage certificate were fabricated. In reality, Sana had no choice in the matter \u2014 she was a child, abducted and coerced.<\/p>

Elishba, a 14-year-old Christian girl, was abducted in Punjab Province in June 2025 and forcibly converted before being \u201cmarried\u201d to her Muslim abductor. In a rare move in such cases, a local magistrate refused to return her to him, recognizing her as a minor.<\/p>

In Pakistan, kidnapped girls\u2014some as young as 10\u2014are often forced to convert and then married and raped under cover of Islamic \u201cmarriages\u201d. Subsequently, they are often pressured to give false statements supporting their abductors. As a result, judges frequently overlook official proof of the girls\u2019 ages and send them back to their kidnappers as supposed \u201clegal wives.\u201d<\/p>

The rare order by the magistrate, however, stopped short of ordering criminal action against the accused abductor even though the sexual exploitation of underage girls under the guise of Islamic marriages is a serious criminal offense that should be prosecuted as such.<\/p>

Elishba, the eldest of six children, had left school to help care for her newborn twin brothers. She went missing on 11 June 2025, yet police waited 11 days to register an abduction case despite her father\u2019s repeated pleas.<\/p>

With ADF International\u2019s support, her mother challenged the magistrate\u2019s order placing Elishba in a women\u2019s shelter after her rescue. The judge accepted the petition and returned her to her family.<\/p>

Back home, Elishba revealed she had been threatened into testifying in favor of her abductor supporting the accused and made to fear her own family. With her parents\u2019 reassurance, she has overcome these fears and is grateful to be safely reunited.<\/p>

ADF International\u2019s allied attorneys have now petitioned the high court to address her forced conversion and to require police to act promptly in all cases of abducted and forcibly married minor girls.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    While these forced conversion and marriage abuses happen across the globe, they are especially prevalent in Pakistan.
