The court makes a <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">clear distinction between medical means of healing, alleviation<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and health promotion and the demand for killing. Suicide is not a health service. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The task of doctors and medical <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">professional<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is to save lives and provide support instead of <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">killing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,&#8221; says Dr. Felix <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">B\u00f6llmann<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, German lawyer and head of the European activities of the human rights organization ADF International.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Court strengthens protection <\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">framework<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The court also states that the &#8220;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">design of the protection <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">framework to prevent misuse and abuse&#8221; of lethal substances plays an important role.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dr. Felix B\u00f6llmann continued: &#8220;The current legal situation remains unsatisfactory since the German Constitutional Court made a dramatic shift, leaving the most vulnerable people in society unprotected from the dangers of assisted dying while allowing commercial and ideological interests to dominate the scene. Nevertheless, It is good that the federal administrative court mentions and strengthens the state&#8217;s concept of protecting the life of every individual. Everyone has a right to life. And everyone has the right to have their life protected from and by everyone. Indeed, the state has a legal obligation to systematically protect every human life. A look at other countries shows that the misuse of lethal means can never be prevented. For this reason alone, the state\u2019s framework of protection and prevention must place high demands on the delivery of such compounds.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The ruling comes amid an international debate on the protection of people at the end of life. A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/bjpsych-open\/article\/euthanasia-and-physicianassisted-suicide-in-people-with-intellectual-disabilities-andor-autism-spectrum-disorders-investigation-of-39-dutch-case-reports-20122021\/93B38EAE616E0A6C378BE308C87253A2%22%20\/l%20%22article\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">medical study<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> recently revealed that several people with autism and intellectual disabilities were euthanized in the Netherlands. In Canada, according to the latest figures, one in 25 people die by euthanasia. In spring, euthanasia for <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">drug addicts <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is also to be <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uRPlDywaEZ\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">introduced<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in Canada.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Last year, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) ruled in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/adfinternational.org\/tom-mortier-ruling\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">precedent-setting case on euthanasia<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in Europe. While the Court did not rule against Belgium\u2019s euthanasia law, it did find that Belgium had violated the woman&#8217;s right to life in the case of the mother of Tom Mortier, a chemist and university lecturer. Mortier&#8217;s mother suffered from temporary depression. She was killed by an injection by a lobbyist for euthanasia. The doctor who killed her, who had no psychological expertise whatsoever, also sat on the committee that was supposed to &#8220;independently&#8221; investigate the case of euthanasia. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/adfinternational.org\/tom-mortier-ruling\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">ADF International represented Tom Mortier before the ECtHR<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span
