This was despite Vaughan-Spruce stating clearly on video that she was not protesting, and despite the clinic being closed, meaning no service users were in the vicinity while she prayed.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The censorship zone was instated by local authorities by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birmingham.gov.uk\/downloads\/file\/24121\/robert_clinic_station_road_b30\">Public Space Protection Order<\/a>, which bans activities which it defines as &#8220;protest&#8221;, including prayer, in the streets surrounding the abortion facility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CPS have now communicated that they have discontinued the charges against Vaughan-Spruce, yet also have made clear that the charges \u201cmay well start again\u201d in the near future subject to further evidential review. So-called \u201cbuffer zone legislation\u201d will result in so many more people like me, doing good and legal activities like offering charitable support to women in crisis pregnancies, or simply praying in their heads, being treated like criminals and even facing court. It\u2019s important to me that I can continue my vital work in supporting women who\u2019d like to avoid abortion if they only had some help. In order to do so, it\u2019s vital that I have clarity as to my legal status. Many of us need an answer as to whether it\u2019s still lawful to pray silently in our own heads. It\u2019s quite another to initially deem those thoughts to be sufficient evidence to justify charges, then discontinue those charges due to \u2018insufficient evidence\u2019, and then to warn that further evidence relating to the already unclear charges may soon be forthcoming so as to restart the entire grueling process from the beginning. This is a clear instance of the process becoming the punishment creating a chilling effect on free expression and freedom of thought, conscience and belief.
