After one interaction, Livia recalled, she was even invited to join an individual for a cup of tea at their house.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Speaking ahead of her trial, Tossici-Bolt said, \u201c<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">There\u2019s nothing wrong with two adults engaging in a consensual conversation on the street. I shouldn\u2019t be treated like a criminal just for this.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Tossici-Bolt&#8217;s legal defence is being supported by ADF International.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5b994592 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5b994592\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Officers attending the scene did not \"personally witness\" any harassment<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-16e5b01a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"16e5b01a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Taking the witness stand on Wednesday morning, Officer Rukan Taki, who is employed by Bournemouth, Christchurch &amp; Poole Council and attended the incident leading to Tossici-Bolt&#8217;s fine, conceded that despite his belief that Tossici-Bolt&#8217;s behaviour constituted a breach of the PSPO, he did not actually \u201cpersonally witness\u201d her engage in harassment or intimidation.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Taki said he \u201cabsolutely\u201d accepted that conversations could be held within the PSPO \u201cbuffer zone\u201d which don\u2019t amount to harassment or intimidation \u2013 a point confirmed by two further officers who took the witness stand in the afternoon. He also confirmed\u00a0that being \u201copen to speaking to someone\u201d also did not amount to harassment or intimidation.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Later in the afternoon, Officer Francesca Alice Ozanne clarified that while she witnessed Livia Tossici-Bolt in the \u201cbuffer zone\u201d, she did not actually see any people enter or leave the clinic \u2013 thus leaving doubt as to whether Tossici-Bolt could be believed to be engaging in \u201charassment\u201d of any service users.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-teams=\"true\">Ozanne, Taki and further witnesses from the council further stated that they had no recollection of any reports being made from members of the public that they had been victims of harassment due to Tossici-Bolt&#8217;s presence.<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Jeremiah Igunnubole, legal counsel for ADF International, supporting Livia\u2019s defence, said:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cUnder far-reaching and vaguely-written rules, we have seen volunteers like Livia criminalised simply for offering to engage in consensual conversation; and others dragged through courts for praying, even silently, in their minds.<\/span><\/i><\/p><p><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">The principle of freedom of thought and speech must be defended both within and outside \u201cbuffer zones\u201d. It\u2019s unthinkable that as real crime is mounting, policing time and resources are being expended on peaceful individuals like Livia who simply, and peacefully, offer to speak.
