Despite finding as a fact that \u201cthe sign made no reference to pregnancy, abortion, or religious matters\u201d and hearing evidence from one council officer that \u201che did not witness her intimidating or harassing any individual\u201d, District Judge Austin ruled that council officers had a reasonable belief that she was in violation of the PSPO.<\/p><p>One of the council officers testified that \u201che formed the view that [Tossici-Bolt] was in breach of [the PSPO] on several grounds. He considered her pro-life views, his own previous interaction with her, the complaint that had been received and the sign that she was holding.\u201d<\/p><p>In mitigation, counsel for Dr Tossici-Bolt stressed that \u201cThe council has not adduced any evidence that she was observed by any service user or any other form of harm\u2026neither is there an identified victim in this case.\u201d<\/p><p>Following the conviction, the Judge sentenced Dr Tossici-Bolt to a conditional discharge and ordered her to pay prosecution costs of \u00a320,000 which must be paid in full by 31 May 2025.<\/p><p>Earlier this week, a US State Department bureau said it was \u201cmonitoring\u201d Dr Tossici-Bolt\u2019s case, which is supported by ADF International, and that it was \u201cconcerned about freedom of expression in the United Kingdom\u201d.<\/p><p>Reacting to the verdict, Dr Tossici-Bolt said:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5fdefb8 elementor-blockquote--skin-border elementor-widget elementor-widget-blockquote\" data-id=\"5fdefb8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"blockquote.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<blockquote class=\"elementor-blockquote\">\n\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-blockquote__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span style=\"color: #AF272F\">\u201cThis is a dark day for Great Britain. I was not protesting and did not harass or obstruct anyone. All I did was offer consensual conversation in a public place, as is my basic right, and yet the court found me guilty.  <\/span>Freedom of expression is in a state of crisis in the UK. What has happened to this country? If we allow this precedent of censorship to stand, nobody\u2019s right to freely express themselves is secure. With ADF International\u2019s support, I will now consider all legal options,\u201d<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> she continued.<\/span><\/p><p><strong>Legal Counsel for ADF International Lorc\u00e1n Price commented:<\/strong><\/p><p>\u201cEveryone who cares about free speech should care about \u2018buffer zones\u2019. A Christian woman has been convicted merely for offering to chat on a public street in Britain. This ruling should show all reasonable people that, beyond the shadow of a doubt, abortion facility \u2018buffer zones\u2019 are incompatible with a free society.<\/p><p>\u201cWe will now support Livia in considering all legal options.\u201d<\/p><p>Dr Tossici-Bolt was issued a fixed penalty notice for holding a sign that said \u201cHere to talk, if you want\u201d in a censorial abortion facility \u201cbuffer zone\u201d in Bournemouth.<\/p><p>She was then prosecuted after she declined to pay it on the grounds that she did not breach the terms of the Public Spaces Protection Order\u2014which bans acts of approval and disapproval regarding abortion\u2014and had the right, protected under Article 10 of the Human Rights Act, to offer consensual\u202fconversations.\u202f<\/p><p>The District Judge who gave today\u2019s verdict is the same judge who last October\u202ffound <a href=\"https:\/\/adfinternational.org\/en-gb\/news\/guilty-army-vet-convicted-for-praying-silently-near-abortion-facility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adam Smith-Connor<\/a> guilty\u202ffor silently praying in a \u201cbuffer zone\u201d, in a case which US Vice President JD Vance directly highlighted in his Munich Security Conference speech<\/p><p>With ADF International\u2019s support, Mr
