Local authorities arrested him, while a mob burned his home to the ground. International human rights groups have repeatedly called for their repeal. It is rare for the European Parliament to raise the same case twice,\u00a0demonstrating\u00a0the gravity and importance of the situation facing Yahaya.\u00a0The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has similarly\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/adfinternational.org\/news\/yahaya-wgad\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">determined<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0that Yahaya\u2019s imprisonment is in violation of\u00a0internationally-recognized\u00a0human rights. Earlier this year,\u00a0the regional West African treaty court, the ECOWAS Court,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.opendoorsuk.org\/news\/latest-news\/nigeria-blasphemy-law\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">ruled<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0that Nigeria\u2019s blasphemy laws violate international law and the African Charter, calling for the blasphemy laws\u2019 repeal.\u00a0The ECOWAS Court based its decision in significant part on Yahaya Sharif-Aminu&#8217;s case.<\/span><span
