In 2025 alone,\u00a0according to one estimate,\u00a0more than 7,000 Christians have been killed for their faith. Since Boko Haram launched its insurgency\u00a0in 2009, estimates\u00a0indicate\u00a0that between 50,000 and 100,000 Christians have lost their lives due to religiously motivated violence. \u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335557856&quot;:16777215,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The destruction of churches has become a defining feature of the crisis, with\u00a0thousands\u00a0of\u00a0churches\u00a0attacked\u00a0or destroyed in recent years. In the central regions of Benue and Plateau States the situation has worsened dramatically, with more than 9,500 people, mostly Christians, killed between May 2023 and May 2025, and around\u00a0500,000 individuals\u00a0newly displaced from their homes due to targeted attacks.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8dc0c00 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8dc0c00\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Advocacy for Nigeria\u2019s Persecuted Christians<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-354d942 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"354d942\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">ADF International advocates for Christians and other religious minorities who face severe persecution across Nigeria. The organization has\u00a0provided legal support for\u00a0multiple individuals targeted under blasphemy laws or attacked for their faith.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335557856&quot;:16777215,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">ADF International supported the legal defense of<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/adfinternational.org\/cases\/rhoda-jatau-nigeria\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Rhoda Jatau,<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0a Christian mother imprisoned for\u00a019 months\u00a0after allegedly sharing a video condemning the brutal lynching of Christian college student Deborah Emmanuel Yakubu. Jatau was fully acquitted in December 2024, marking an important victory for justice and free expression.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335557856&quot;:16777215,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">ADF International also backed the successful appeal of *<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">D<\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/adfinternational.org\/news\/victory-for-religious-freedom-nigerian-high-court-strikes-down-wrongful-conviction-of-christian-man\"><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">avid<\/span><\/i><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(name changed for security\u00a0reasons)*, a Christian man who was wrongfully convicted and suffered torture after helping a convert escape violent threats. A Nigerian High Court\u00a0ultimately overturned\u00a0his conviction, acknowledging the injustices he endured.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335557856&quot;:16777215,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Today, ADF International continues its support for\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/adfinternational.org\/cases\/yahaya\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Yahaya Sharif-Aminu<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, a Sufi musician imprisoned for over five years after a WhatsApp message\u00a0deemed\u00a0blasphemous.\u00a0Facing a death\u00a0sentence, Sharif-Aminu is now awaiting his next hearing before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, and his case may be heard and decided in the coming months. Sharif-Aminu\u2019s case has the potential to abolish Nigeria\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/adfinternational.org\/campaign\/free-yahaya\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">blasphemy laws<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, which embolden mob violence and fuel the climate of hostility facing Christians and other vulnerable groups.<\/span><span
