Similarly,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/adfinternational.org\/cases\/nine-borges-brazil\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Nine Borges<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(not related to Isadora Borges)\u00a0is under criminal investigation for \u201ctransphobia\u201d for\u00a0posting an Instagram video drawing attention to concerns about the financing and influence of pro-LGBT\u00a0organisations\u00a0in Brazil,\u00a0which\u00a0included criticism of\u00a0Symmy\u00a0Larrat, Brazil\u2019s LGBT National Secretary.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">In another case, Assemblies of God Pastor Douglas Baptista faced criminal charges for authoring a book with a Christian view of sexuality. His case was legally supported by ADF International. Charges in\u00a0his case were dropped, but they\u00a0remain\u00a0evidence of the broader, chilling trend of government efforts in Brazil to censor peaceful online expression.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">ADF International\u00a0also\u00a0represents\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/adfinternational.org\/news\/brazil-censorship-iachr\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">five Brazilian legislators<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(Senator Eduardo Girao and members of the Chamber of Deputies Marcel Van Hattem, Adriana Ventura, Gilson Marques, and Ricardo Salles) before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. The legislators are\u00a0challenging\u00a0violations of their free speech rights before the Commission. They claim violations of their rights under the Convention, including their freedom of expression,\u00a0as a result of\u00a0escalating state censorship which reached a head with last year\u2019s X ban in Brazil during the municipal elections period.
