However, this does not reverse the fact that for most of the past year,\u00a0churches have\u00a0been subjected to\u00a0unfair treatment in comparison to\u00a0places of commerce,\u201d said Declan\u00a0Ganley, in response to the government\u2019s statement.<\/p><p>\u201cThere\u00a0is no clear explanation as to why\u00a0the\u00a0Irish\u00a0people should have been\u00a0deprived of\u00a0an essential\u00a0source of comfort and hope in\u00a0such a time of national\u00a0grief. There\u2019s no clear logic\u00a0as to\u00a0why an airy, open church, with plenty of space, should be\u00a0considered somehow\u00a0more dangerous than a bicycle shop. Are people of faith\u00a0really\u00a0more\u00a0contagious\u00a0than others?\u201d\u00a0he continued.<\/p><p>\u201cWe know from the case of Canon Tom White in Scotland that the decision to completely ban public worship is an unlawful one that unnecessarily suspends fundamental human rights. While I\u2019m very thankful that church doors will once again open in Ireland, this case remains important.\u00a0\u00a0Now more than ever, we need a clear decision from the court as to whether this draconian ban was ever justified in the first place. And it is also a critical moment for the future of faith in Ireland. The courts now have the opportunity to ensure that the community is never again deprived access to a place to meet with God and minister to the suffering at a time of
