- Experts discuss dangers of euthanasia laws in Europe
- Global campaign to raise awareness around dangers of euthanasia laws
BRUSSELS (10 October 2019) – Today, ADF International hosted a panel discussion at the Brussels Press Club as part of the launch week of the global Affirm Dignity | End Euthanasia campaign. Experts introduced the campaign and spoke about the dangers of euthanasia laws for society and individuals through legal cases, personal stories, and analysis of the most recent statistics.
“A fair and just society cares for its most vulnerable. Once we open the door to intentional killing, there is no logical stopping point. In countries such as Belgium and Netherlands, euthanasia cases have increased tenfold since legalization. Through the Affirm Dignity | End Euthanasia campaign, we want to highlight the dangers of euthanasia and make the case for protecting life. We specifically chose World Hospice and Palliative Care Day to launch this campaign as it reminds us of the utmost respect and care the sick, suffering, elderly, and vulnerable in our society deserve. Legalizing euthanasia sends the opposite message and is a step in the wrong direction,” said Robert Clarke, Director of European Advocacy for ADF International.
Speakers at the event included Constance du Bus from Institut Européen de Bioéthique, Marie-Therese Hengst from Care for Life, Antoine Mellado from Jerôme Lejèune Foundation, Robert Clarke, Director of European Advocacy, ADF International, and Alice Neffe, Legal Officer, ADF International.
