GENEVA (30 November 2018) –On 3 December, the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations will be hosting an event in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is entitled “70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Dignity of Life.” The speakers will discuss the continued relevance of this foundational human rights document and the responsibility of the international community to protect the fundamental freedoms it outlines, especially the right to life. Speakers include Archbishop Ivan Jurkovič, Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi, Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia, and a range of human rights experts.
“In the run-up to the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of the Human Rights, we urge world leaders and the international community to reaffirm the inherent dignity of every human being and to promote fundamental freedoms for every person without exception. The United Nations Human Rights Council has a particular responsibility in strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide. Affirming everyone’s right to life lies at the centre of this commitment,” said Giorgio Mazzoli, UN Representative for ADF International in Geneva.
