Global IT Systems Administrator

ADF International is looking for a highly organized Global IT Systems Administrator to join us in our Vienna, Austria office. As the Global IT System Administrator, you are vital to the IT Operations team supporting our international offices, primarily in Europe. In this role, you will report directly to the VP of IT Operations and are responsible as an individual contributor to the overall IT operations of the organization’s global IT presence outside North America. This role is a unique hybrid role of both general helpdesk support for ADF International and backend user and system support, including servers, storage, applications, networking, phone systems, user additions, moves and changes, data backup and restore, document processes, and other duties as assigned.  This role will be expected and encouraged to regularly travel between ADF’s main offices in Vienna (Austria), London (UK), and Brussels (Belgium) to support the international organization and its users.

 

Your Essential Responsibilities:

In this position, you will:

  • Receive general instructions for new responsibilities from the Vice President of IT Operations.
  • Administer and manage the organization's international server and networking infrastructure.
  • Support international users at both a hybrid helpdesk support and server and infrastructure level.
  • Work closely with other leaders in IT to adhere to best practices from Cyber Security, IT Infrastructure, and Helpdesk.
  • Adopt new processes and procedures for IT support as needed, implementing new organizational-wide processes and procedures while advocating for international users and the associated nuances of a global IT environment.
  • Be a voice for IT leadership internationally, promoting and supporting best practices to protect and maintain the organization.
  • Initiate new responsibilities and help to plan for the future of the international location’s site/network.
  • Evaluate and/or recommend purchases; strongly influence purchasing process.

Skills You Need to Succeed:

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft and Linux Operating Systems – with comfort in most aspects of operating system administration, such as managing processes and services, configuration of systems, system installation and configuration, and fundamentals of security.
  • Office 365 Management, Microsoft Entra, and other SaaS tools within the Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Deployment and Administration of Virtualization technologies such as VMWare, Hyper-V and Proxmox.
  • Fundamental cloud systems and administration (AWS and Azure).
  • Data protection, backup, and disaster recovery best practices.
  • Mobile and Desktop OS and application support for a typical Microsoft-based user, including support for laptop hardware, peripherals, and mobile connectivity.
  • Principles and practice of system configuration management.
  • Networking/distributed computing environments concepts, such as file sharing, route/switch, firewalls, and services such as DNS and DHCP.
  • General understanding of international privacy laws and how they apply to data systems (GDPR).

 

Demonstrated proficiency in:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to write purchase justifications, train users in complex topics, make presentations to an internal audience, and interact positively with upper management.
  • Independent problem-solving, self-direction.
  • Working well alone or in a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, teamplay, research, organization, decision-making, listening and detail-oriented analytical skills, including the ability to explain any problem or bug and the ability to describe how problems were fixed.

 

Ability to:

  • Write scripts in an administrative language (e.g., VBScript, Windows PowerShell).
  • Administer networking switches and firewalls such as Juniper, Cisco.
  • Troubleshoot user helpdesk tickets from essential helpdesk support to advanced system troubleshooting of servers and clients.
  • Prioritize and manage a queue of work from both a helpdesk system and traditional IT project work.
  • Travel between ADF international locations regularly to support the users, servers, and network infrastructure across Europe.
  • Maintain an on-call schedule for urgent after-hours IT needs and support as necessary.

 

Education and/or experience:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in computer science or a related field.
  • Three to five years of System administration experience and helpdesk experience.
  • Strong business professional English language skills.

 

Work permit for Austria or EU citizenship required
